Creating Guest Networks With Kerio Control Virtual Appliance

Overview

Customers may want to create guest networks with Kerio Control Virtual Appliance (VMware) installed on their laptops. This article shares the process of creating a LAN, WAN, or a guest network with Kerio Control installed on a laptop.

Prerequisites

The following network topology is required:

You can complete this setup with at least two laptops. If there is no Access Point (AP), replacing it with a laptop should not change anything.

Solution

Follow these steps with the Kerio Control application installed on Laptop1:

  1. Assign a static IP (for example, 10.10.10.1) to the Ethernet interface on Laptop1. You can assign this IP directly from options available on the Windows network adapter page.
  2. Create another network interface from VMware that is bridged to this Ethernet interface. This will be used as the guest interface in Kerio Control.
  3. Update the default bridged network to use the Wi-Fi card.

For more clarity, refer to the following video about this process:

Testing

You can obtain the IP address of Laptop1 from Laptop2 and ping google.com without any problems.
