Manual Port Speed Configuration Not Supported on Kerio Control NG Appliances / Disconnected Slave Port

Overview

You may encounter a scenario where manual port speed configuration is not available on KerioControl NG appliances with Intel 2.5G network interfaces. Attempting to change port speed settings will display the following warning:

“The driver for this interface supports Auto Negotiation only”

Solution

Cause

The Intel 2.5G driver included in Kerio Control v10 does not support manual speed/duplex configuration. This is a driver limitation, not a KerioControl software issue.

The warning message was intentionally added by GFI engineering to clearly inform administrators of this limitation rather than silently failing.

Troubleshooting: Disconnected Slave Ports

If you are experiencing "disconnected" slave ports on your NG appliance, do not attempt to resolve this by manually setting port speed — this will not work due to the driver limitation above. Instead, check the following:

Check

Action

Physical cabling

Inspect and reseat all network cables

Switch port config

Ensure auto-negotiation is enabled on the connected switch port

Switch compatibility

Verify the switch supports 2.5G or multi-gig link speeds

Resolution

Current Workaround:

  • Ensure all connected switches and routers are set to auto-negotiate

  • The Intel 2.5G NIC will automatically negotiate the optimal link speed — no manual override is needed

  • Speed settings established via auto-negotiation persist after reboot

Future Updates:

  • GFI Engineering is actively tracking Intel driver updates

  • Once Intel releases a driver version supporting manual speed configuration, it will be incorporated into a future Kerio Control v10 release

  • No ETA is currently available

Important Notes

  • This limitation affects all Kerio Control NG series appliances equipped with Intel 2.5G NICs

  • This is not a bug — the warning message is by design

  • Legacy NG appliances with standard 1G Intel NICs are not affected by this limitation
