Installing Different Editions of Kerio Control

Overview

This article shares information about the three possible ways of installing Kerio Control and shares links for their specific instructions.

 

Information

You can install Kerio Control in three different ways:

  • Software Appliance
  • Virtual Appliance
  • Kerio Control Box/Hardware Appliance

Note: Kerio Control version 9.3 and onwards does not support 32-bit hardware.

Edition Description
Software Appliance

Kerio Control Software Appliance is a package of Kerio Control and a special Linux-based operating system. Install the appliance on a PC without an operating system.

Virtual
Appliance

Kerio Control Virtual Appliance is the software appliance edition pre-installed on a virtual host for the particular hypervisor. Virtual appliances for VMware and Hyper-V are available.

Kerio Control Box

Kerio Control Box is a hardware device with Kerio Control Software Appliance pre-installed. Multiple models are available for this option. 

 

Installing Software Appliance Edition

Installing Virtual Appliance Edition

Kerio Control Virtual Appliance is a UTM (United Threat Management) solution that is distributed as a virtual appliance for VMware and Hyper-V. The software provides a complex set of features for security of local networks, control of user access to the internet, and monitoring of user activity.

Installing Kerio Control Box/Hardware Appliance

You can acquire Kerio Control as a dedicated hardware device called the Kerio Control Box. This appliance can be installed inside your network as a UTM firewall that features:

  • Intrusion prevention 
  • Content filtering
  • Activity reporting
  • Bandwidth management
  • Virtual private networking

Sub-1U table mountable appliance with:

1U rack-mountable appliance with:

  • 6xGb ports
  • 3.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5, 16GB RAM, 32GB SSD
NG511

1U rack-mountable appliance with:

  • 14xGb ports
  • 3.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5, 16GB RAM, 32GB SSD
