Troubleshooting Repeated Crashes of Kerio Control Appliance on NG500 Platform

Overview

Customers using the Kerio Control appliance on the NG500 hardware box may experience repeated crashes, particularly after upgrading to version 9.4.3 or newer versions.

These crashes often require a hard reboot to resolve and may persist despite attempts to clean out the debug log, enable crash-reporting configuration etc. These may not be crashes per-se, but rather appliance hangs, observed by complete network stoppage and unresponsiveness of the UI.

This problem is caused by a compatibility issue between the Kerio Control software and the NG500 platform, which has reached its End of Life (EOL) and is no longer officially supported by Kerio Control 9.4.4.

Solution

To resolve this issue, it is recommended to upgrade the hardware. As the NG500 platform has reached its EOL, it is no longer officially supported by Kerio Control 9.4.3 and newer versions.

Another workaround is to downgrade the Kerio Control appliance to version 9.3.6p1 for the time being, but this should only be done as an interim solution, since the 9.3.6 p1 version is an old one as well, with limited support.

For an optimal user experience, customers should upgrade to NG510/11 or deploy custom hardware and Install Software Appliance on bare-metal server. While Kerio Control 9.4.3 or later can still be deployed on NG500 hardware, in some cases, the appliance may get stuck and require a hard reboot.

Summary

Repeated crashes of the Kerio Control appliance on the NG500 platform are due to a compatibility issue with the Kerio Control software. The solution is to upgrade the hardware to NG510/11 or custom hardware for an optimal user experience.
