Overview
While trying to open website URLs specified in national characters, such as Cyrillic, Chinese, etc, the website should be converted using Punycode or IDN converter. It transforms Punycode to Text/Unicode and vice-versa.
While detecting such national websites, the Web Filter URL categorization shows No category found.
This article provides information on how to configure Kerio Control Content Rules to allow such websites.
Solution
- Open Punycode converter and paste the URL with national symbols. Click Convert to Punycode and click Copy in Punycode editor.
- In Kerio Control Webadmin > Content Filter > Applications and Web Categories tab, paste the Punycode URL. The category will be detected correctly, i.e. Government Sponsored.
- If there is a need to explicitly allow the Web traffic to that specific website, specify the Punycode URL in a separate content rule.
Detected content: <Punycode_URL>
Source: Any
Action: Allow
Testing
For troubleshooting purposes, enable the Packets dropped for some reason option in Debug Logs and try to access the website. Depending on the dropped packets, allow the traffic using Traffic Rules or Ignored Intrusions (IPS).
