Overview
While trying to install the old Kerio VPN client (prior to version 9.2.7) on Windows 10, the installation fails with the following error:
Error 28201. Failed to install VPN device driver. Command: Create. Action: UpdateDevice. Result: 0x80070103, unspecified error
When installing the latest VPN client (version 9.3.5), the VPN cannot be established with a Connection closed error.
This article provides details on how to resolve such an issue.
Solution
Recent Windows 10 versions (20.04 and later) require a new set of signed VPN drivers that are included on the 9.3.5 installer. However, this version is not compatible with the "blowfish" cipher mechanism for the VPN user authentication. This is applicable if you have older versions of the Kerio Control VPN server.
To resolve this issue:
- Uninstall the current Kerio VPN client from Windows Settings > Apps & Features.
- Install VPN client version 9.2.7 build 4393, which has signed VPN drivers for Windows 10 20.04. For more information, please refer to Installing and Configuring Kerio Control VPN Client on Windows.
