Overview
Customers may experience an issue when trying to upgrade their Kerio Control software from version 9.4.2.p1 to the latest version. This issue occurs when attempting to update from older versions of Kerio Control, such as 9.4.2p1, 9.3.6p1, and others, to the latest version available version.
Error: Operation count not be completed due to unavailable free space in memory is what the UI will show.
The system will reject the update due to the larger file size of the latest builds. This file size check is one of many security precautions of Kerio Control and was only lifted in later versions (lifted to different size specification).
This issue will not occur when updating from 9.4.3p4 or 9.4.4 to the latest version, or in the case of automatic upgrades, as the issue only affects web admin uploads.
Solution
The solution involves manually uploading a binary file for the upgrade, specifically the 9.4.3 p4 version, which is below the 384MB file size limitation of the older builds. So you need to perform an intermediate update to the above version, after which you can upgrade to the latest available one:
The steps are as follows:
- Download the 9.4.3 p4 version of the software from the the Kerio Software Archive, or using the direct URL
- Navigate to the Kerio Control administration interface.
- Go to the Advanced Options section.
- Click on Manual Update.
- Click on Choose File and select the downloaded file.
- Click on Upload to start the upgrade process.
- Once upgraded to the intermediate 9.4.3 p4, you can proceed with upgrading to the latest available version, using any of the listed metods
Summary
Upgrading the Kerio Control software from older version 9.3.6 p1 or 9.4.2.p1 to latest version can be achieved by manually uploading a binary file for the upgrade. The 9.4.3 p4 version of the software, which is under the size limit of 384MB, should be downloaded and uploaded via the 'Manual Update' option in the 'Advanced Options' section of the Kerio Control administration interface.
FAQ
-
What if I can't find the 9.4.3 p4 version of the software?
If you can't find the required version, please reach out to the support team for assistance. -
What if I am on version 9.4.3 p1, 9.4.3 p2 or 9.4.3 p3?
This issue has been resolved in versions 9.4.3p1 and later, so an upgrade from these versions to the latest version should not pose any issues. -
If the issue is resolved in 9.4.3 p1, why can't I upgrade to 9.4.3 p1, 9.4.3 p2 or 9.4.3 p3, and I need to jump all the way to 9.4.3 p4?
This is because the .img files of the above versions are all above the size limit of 384MB; the size limitation was removed in 9.4.3 p1, however, the .img file of this actual version, all the way to 9.4.3 p3 weighs in above this size. 9.4.3 p4 was specifically compiled with a reduced size to allow this issue to be fixed
